Paraguay Gun Permit questions.

Hello, I recently moved to Paraguay but can't find much info relating this topic. All info in English seems to be different from site to site.

How does the process look like? Is it possible to be a firearm license holder on temporary residence (Cedula) like some sites state?

Thanks for all answers!

Relying only on information you find in English is not a good strategy.聽 You will need Spanish.

This article says the first step is to contact the agency, Direcci贸n General de Material B茅lico (DIGEMABEL or also DIMABEL):

That agency is here:

They have an email address at the bottom of the page to contact them.

Several other articles also outline the complicated procedure and pre-requisites for the porte y tenencia of arms.

Keeping and bearing of arms in Paraguay is controlled by Law 4036 (Ley N潞 4036).聽 You may read it here in its entirety:

There are sporting clubs for hunting in Paraguay.聽 You should get in touch with them to possibly get more information about legally obtaining and carrying firearms.聽 You could do an internet search for

paraguay clubes organizaciones caza deportiva

Please note that in October 2023 the President signed off on legislation banning all imports of firearms into the country.

In effect, you are still able to get a permit and buy firearms, however prices have increased from where they were last year.

@InPyNow does that mean that there won't be any new firearms coming?

If I understand correctly all they are doing now is selling out the stock that they have, what will happen after the stock runs out? Is there any info about that or that its already running out and you can't buy most firearms like CZ?

Thanks!

@European Expat Once the stock runs out, no more sales, except for 2nd hand sales through registered gun shops. Prices have already gone up substantially. For example, Camping 44 is now selling guns in *instalments* / *payment-plans*. You are looking at over $3,500 USD for a Ruger 223/556 Gunsite Scout (2,215,000Gs per month over 12 months = 26,580,000 or in USD (at USDPYG = 7,540) = $3,525+/- . I think you can get this thing for less than $1,200USD in the USA.

@European Expat

Gun shops will do the application, be prepared as shooting here is a very, very, very and can I say once more extremely expensive hobby.

@European Expat

Hi,

What do you want to know ? Exactly ? For what I hear, it should still be possible getting a gun license.

You could also import your guns, you already have.

Some types of guns are a bit difficult, but should still be possible .

I came to Paraguay in 2008, and the one, supposed to send my guns found out, he did not know howto , in 2017, had to return back , then covid happened , all stalled, came back, had a small accident, with big influence, but my cedula is renewed , opening a few businesses in Paraguay, and import from my gunstuff is now set to go.

At last....

Are you able to speak Spanish ?

You find all documents, downloadable in Spanish.

I do hear, these days, it became a bit more cumbersome, but Paraguay is a 'shall' state.

If all your papers are riht, and you proofed to be able handling a gun, not being a criminal, a drunk , or etc.

It should work out.

I should be back in Paraguay August to October, as I first have to put some time in a project there.

Let me know, how聽 can help.

Best regards,

Steve

PS : there are some nice gunclubs, and hunting possibilities around.
