Hello Ajiboye,

I am a British national living in Paraguay and also an immigration consultant.

Paraguay has two distinct pathways to residency. The temporary residency permit which is very straightforward (no investment required) and the permanent residency permit by investment program which requires an investment into a business of $70,000 USD. This business can be your own new venture or an existing business.

The issue that many face is that it can be difficult to an obtain the initial entry visa into Paraguay. For this reason, nationals from countries that do not have visa-free access to Paraguay often choose the investor pathway. As an investor you it is easier to demonstrate clearly your reason for coming to Paraguay which can make the initial visa-application process more straightforward.

My company *** assists with residency applications throughout Latin America with the support of our local legal partners. However, ***. That said, there are some other companies that may be able to help you with these types of visas that I would be happy to refer your case on to if you are interested.

I hope that helps!

Affiliate resellers rarely know anything. Beware of them.

For an investor visa, you also need to create five full-time jobs for Paraguayan nationals, in addition to the invested amount. If you don't follow on the project, your PR will be taken away from you. Reports with SUACE need to be done.

The investor visa is issued to you (not for your family). Rarely given PR for family members on one investor.

The difficulty of the application is actually the same. You will need an invitation either way and be approved by the foreign ministry.

Nigerian citizens count 15k per person TR.

Most Google gurus will either turn you down or just scam you. They are able to work only with visa-free countries bc they have no or only low-level connections.

Coming first for a year to 鈥渢est鈥 the country is a very smart approach.

Since you are from Nigeria, the most important first step is understanding the visa situation before travel. Paraguay requires visas for certain nationalities, and in some cases the visa must be approved by the Ministry in Asunci贸n before it is issued. So before planning anything else, contact the nearest Paraguayan consulate and confirm the entry requirements for Nigerian citizens.

If your long-term goal is to stay for a year and potentially settle, the realistic pathway usually looks like this:

Secure the correct entry visa (if required).

Prepare apostilled documents (birth certificate + police clearance).

Apply for temporary residency inside Paraguay.

Paraguay does not require large investments for residency, but the process must be done properly and in the correct order. Having a visa allows entry it does not automatically mean residency approval.

Regarding work:

Agriculture is a major sector in Paraguay, but most formal jobs require residency and Spanish. At 55, it鈥檚 definitely possible to relocate, but you should realistically plan for language integration and possibly having some financial buffer during the first months.

For renting in Encarnaci贸n, many people start with a short-term furnished rental (1鈥3 months) and then negotiate a longer local contract once they are physically there. It鈥檚 much safer than signing something remotely.

Your idea come first, observe for a year, then decide is the right mindset. Just handle the visa correctly before booking flights.
