Observing the proper decorum when it comes to socialising in Doha is strictly implemented among the residents. Behaving properly in public reflects the culture and lifestyle of the city's inhabitants.

Although Doha is customary for the pop and modern society brought by expatriates, there are聽general rules you must observe in order to avoid strains towards the residents or other Arabs聽living within the State. These rules are still practised and have ended up being mastered byeveryone. There are a few things you must consider whenever you try to talk to strangers or聽mingle with the public.聽

Relationships in Doha

Men must avoid talking to women wearing abayas for no specific reason. Some might find it聽strange, but it can cause some troubles to both sides, especially they are married. Some locals聽are timid in human interactions, particularly when it comes to foreigners.聽It goes the same way for women, regardless of their nationality. They must not interfere in a聽conversation between men unless they are invited to talk.

Stay discrete. It is essential to choose your words carefully and wisely before speaking to locals.聽Even though English is widely spoken by many nationalities in Doha, not everyone is fluent.聽Some words might seem offensive and leave a bad impression. Western taboos are not really聽discussed, so be careful when saying things which others may not understand.

The dress code in Doha

Dress up decently for public events or whenever you go around in public. Doha is home to high-end fashion and street styles; however, there are some types of clothing that you must avoid.

Make sure not to show body parts like your belly button, cleavage (for women), or to wear micro聽shorts and other provocative outfits. Men are not allowed to dress in too revealing sleeve-less聽shirts or walk half-naked around as well. A dapper man and a classy woman will look appealing聽and respectable to everyone.

Public display of affection in Doha

Public display of affection among couples is not allowed. Hugging or kissing in public is unlikely聽to be acceptable in the whole country. There might be chances to bring your better half or your聽partner during events, but always remember to behave professionally in front of other people.聽Acting like love birds around can be an awkward behaviour; still, personal things matter only in聽private.

General behaviour in Doha

Keep eye contact whenever you have a conversation with anyone. It applies anywhere.聽Dropping your mobile down and showing interest during a conversation is a crucial behaviour. It聽reflects your kind of personality and attitude and shows respects to the other person. Avoid using offensive words. Well, you correctly understood what we mean. Swear words聽should not be spoken at all, or else you might end up in trouble.

Accept food when offered by locals, as much as possible. Locals love to invite friends in their聽homes, and they are genuinely hospitable. Accepting the food they offer is a sign of respect.聽You do not need to eat the whole meal if you can't, but at least take a small bite and show聽gratitude towards them, unless you have a special diet or a specific reason that you can't. Try to聽ask for a glass of water as an alternative.

Do not blunt. Always smile. It is contagious and gives a positive conclusion about yourself.
