English Teacher & Education Project Assistant – Rwanda (Startup Education Center)

We are a growing education center in Rwanda seeking a motivated and experienced English teacher to join us during an exciting startup phase.

This opportunity is well suited for an expat based in Rwanda who values meaningful work, cultural exchange, and the chance to actively shape an education project from the ground up.

About the Role

This is a blended role combining teaching, support, and growth contribution. Responsibilities include:

Teaching English to children and/or adults

Building strong, caring relationships with students and treating them with ownership and professionalism

Contributing ideas to improve lesson quality and student experience

Supporting basic marketing activities (outreach ideas, visibility, content support)

Assisting with overall teaching coordination and academic organization

Working Hours

Flexible working hours, determined by the number of enrolled students and class schedules

Teaching hours may increase as the center grows

Suitable for candidates comfortable with a dynamic, startup environment

Ideal Candidate

Experience teaching English (formal or informal)

Self-motivated, reliable, and proactive

Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small team

Interested in community impact and cultural immersion

Experience with international exam preparation (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, etc.) is a strong advantage, but willingness to learn is welcome

Contract & Compensation

3-month probation period

Position offered as:

A volunteer role (ideal for expats seeking local experience, impact, and references), OR

A stipend-based role of 150,000 RWF per month, depending on experience and level of involvement

Diplomas

TEFL / TESOL / CELTA certificate (or equivalent) Degree or diploma in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field (preferred) Proven English teaching experience (formal or informal) accepted in place of formal qualifications Experience or training in international exam preparation (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo English Test) is an advantage
