Tianjin, Tianjin Shi, China

Jul 2017 - Aug 2017

Tianjin, Tianjin Shi, China

I'm going to go study for a month...Mandarin Chinese intensive summer school.
I'm an EFL teacher and I want to learn Mandarin and eventually be fluent enough to teach it as a foreign language.
I love the people, the culture, the food and the language.
Nothing really, I liked it so much I'm going back to the same city and district.

Jalisco, Mexico

Since Dec 2014

Jalisco, Mexico

Teaching English and starting a culture exchange between my former Chinese students and Mexican students. First we'll start with e-pals and go from there.
ESL teacher.
Small town, slow pace, warm weather all year round, and good food.
Closed mindedness, crooked cops/state police/military, and how open people are to giving and receiving bribes.

Athens, Attica, Greece

Went for a work related event and got to do lots of sightseeing.

I loved the people, the culture, the FOOD and the language, at first it didn't seem appealing to me to learn the language but after hearing it it really won me over.
I guess the dirty side of the city, you know the trash and graffiti and things like that but it's to be expected from an international city like Athens. I guess I was just saddened that the people who live there don't appreciate it the historical value of their city as much as people who don't live there do...I'm not saying everyone feels this way but a lot of younger people that I saw drinking and smoking and littering around these historical sites was disappointing.

Tianjin, China

Aug 2014 - Dec 2014

Tianjin, China

Teaching English and learning the language and sampling all the local food.
Teaching English at Tianjin University
The small town feel. I came from a city of 15K people to Tianjin and unless I was on the road I never really felt how big it is.
The air pollution...but I guess that's all over China. The winter is pretty bad.

Moving to China by Seth_b66

What is the most difficult aspect about being an American and moving to Beijing?

The poor air quality...it is quite shocking really. Other than that you really have to be open to the way things are done in China. That goes for any country really and do your best to adapt. When in Rome.... :) Read More
