About

We have been living in Alfaz del PI / Albir right on the border with Altea for a little over two years. After working hard for 45 years we dreamed of a quiet, pleasant retirement under mild weather conditions. The weather is indeed very pleasant but as for the rest we are very disappointed! The dogs, there are hundreds of them, don't stop barking because the owners have no respect for the neighbors. Either they leave them on the terraces when they go to work or when they party at night or they are dogs left alone in summer properties for 10 months of the year, to guard the house. Someone comes to feed them from time to time but these dogs bark day and night (except when it's very hot!) The Police, although there are laws on "trouble created by noise, barking etc...., they tell you either dogs are made to bark, or we don't know which one started etc.... It's horror! Secondly, throughout the Valencian Community, it is allowed to burn garden and field waste in the open air, meaning that almost every day we breathe toxic gases. We suppose that this coast is called the White Coast due to the fact that there are white smokes hovering under the beautiful blue sky. There are also norms and laws on this subject but as it is an ancestral habit once again the Police do not intervene because they do not want to give fines to their peers. Normally you need a permit, a proper "burner", put out the fire at 11 a.m. and not let it die, there must always be a presence to control it if necessary and no, none of these rules are followed or applied. It's total anarchy with of course all the risks of fire. In Andalusia and Catalonia they have banned open air fires as requested by the European Community after having carried out a whole scientific study on toxic gases and assure you that there are a lot of them! So be careful where you plant your dream!
