My expat journey

franceusafrancehungarywalesenglandfinlandfinland
Berlin, Finland

Sept 2004 - Jun 2007

Berlin, Finland

Masters research
grad student and writer
The vibe in districts like Charlottenburg, Sch枚neberg and Wilmersdorf, reliving the 1920s
Over-hyped places like Prenzlauer Berg and the philosophy that went into "shaping" it.

Finland

Finland

Norwich, England

Sept 2001 - Sept 2004

Norwich, England

university degree
Going back to a place I visited briefly when I was twelve and reconnecting; the friendships made and lessons learned.

Cardiff, Wales

Jun 2000 - Sept 2001

Cardiff, Wales

working on a project that changed my entire life
writer
The ability to reconnect with people from my (not so) distant past, following up on a dream with all it consequences

Budapest, Hungary

Jul 1995 - Jun 2000

Budapest, Hungary

too many to get into
teacher, writer
Learning about life, glib, blas茅 and overused as it sounds. But there's a lot to be said for making your first place away from home. Bonding with my brother. And overall, way too many things discovered and uncovered to get into here. But feel free to ask.

Paris, France

Oct 1993 - Jul 1995

Paris, France

college
Home, family, the vibe of the city, exploring different aspects and seeing places I knew and remembered from childhood through the eyes of a more grown up person

Various cities and states, USA

Jul 1981 - May 1990

Various cities and states, USA

Shuttling back and forth between USA and Europe
being the ultimate brat to my parents
That being a Third Culture Kid didn't really matter because everyone had so much genetic makeup in their families' past that being the passport holder of one country but having the heritage of several others not only didn't matter but actually made you blend in and feel at home.

Wow, thanks for your replies. Eien, lol but so true. I don't get it really but I'm not judging. No really I'm not. Then again, we might actually know some of the same people. Considering how small the world is, I wouldn't be surprised. And yes, my ... Read More
