bringing seeds into Costa Rica by lauramacpherson
We will be in Costa Rica for 4 months. I wanted to grow some veggies and herbs while we are there. Does anyone know if you are allowed to bring unopened seed packets from the US into Costa Rica? Thanks. Laura
Thats just it, there not looking very hard for seeds but if there found, they get taken. I wouldnt bother except for summer squash and anything like a specific veriaty of veggie. I never hsve seen yellow squash seed, or pattipan. But my seeds grew ... Read More

I live in the South, near the border with Panam谩, at 1300 meters elevation. I lived at the beach before. I recomend somewhere close to here, near San Vito. There are less tourists and its not so hectic. Anything you need is close. Further north ... Read More

Bring all the squash you can, the local ones arent as good. Tomato, cucumber and beet seeds are available at most any ag store and some hardware stores. You will need to improvise a roof of some sort in the rainy season. I had yellow squash that ... Read More

They take away whatever seeds they find, people bringing them to me had them taken. But on a person there not looking and that has always worked for us. There not looking real hard. Gotta have my crook neck yellow squash... Read More

Is it likely that a taxi driver will accept payment in dollars? Similarly, will grocery stores accept dollars?
Good point about the bills and not taking 50's. I live near Paso Canoas and spend dollars on the paname帽an side and tico sides sometimes. Dollars are common and no big deal at all. Read More

In my experiance almost everyone will take dollars. But they use 500 colones for the exchange rate so your loosing on the change. I cant remember in seven years where someone wouldnt take dollars. But thats just my experiance here in la zona sur. I ... Read More

If the seeds are found by customs they will be taken. If there well hidden there shouldnt be a problem. On your person in pockets may be the best way. Ive had them sent and brought to me by others. The plants from up north are normaly okay in the ... Read More
