Tripoli, Libya

Since Apr 1999

Tripoli, Libya

Area Manager for a UK/Swedish Corrosion Control Company...work or have worked for most of the Oil and Gas companies here. Great opportunities to see the sites all over Libya and all paid for by others.
Manager, Senior Engineer when called upon for specialist projects
opportunity to work not only in Libya but also visit other Magreb countries.
Ah now that may take 4 or 5 A4 sheets to complete...At the moment biggest gripe would be the car parking at the airport and the so so corrupt so called police there who are more intent in collections rather than sorting out the disgraceful attempts by people to park in a reasonable manner....recently waited 3 hours to get out as some a**hole blocked me in with no thought I would have to get out before him!!!!

Bangkok, Thailand

Mar 1996 - Mar 1999

Bangkok, Thailand

Area Manager
Corrosion
DO I have to say! Fabulous place and as always with a new country getting the opportunity to travel all over an have new experiences
Bangkok traffic....do not organise more than one meeting in a day... Floods an occasional problem

Singapore, Singapore

Mar 1991 - Mar 1996

Singapore, Singapore

Loads of projects all over South East Asia, even had the opportunity of doing business in Burma (Myanmar)
Senior Engineer - Corrosion
The fantastic way of life
Place was too small - Good job for Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand being so close for fabulous holidays......and Singapore was expensive to live

Baghdad, Iraq

Mar 1989 - Mar 1991

Baghdad, Iraq

Project Engineer seconded to Siapem on Oil pipeline to Turkey....other projects from Basra to border region Iraq/Turkey...Samawa, Nasariya and more
Corrosion
One of the best postings I have had in my travels. Many reasons why perhaps the main one was getting the opportunity to visit all the historic places which exist in Iraq from Babylon to Niniva and many more
There was a war on and scud missles were a regular occurance in Baghdad. Major dislike was the so called British Club (Embassy) which did not allow me in as I was not a member....inside were the Irish, Yugoslavs you name it but no, as a Brit was not allowed in. This is not uncommon as I have found out even here in Libya....not in the clique then stay at home!!!

Khobar, Saudi Arabia

Mar 1982 - Mar 1987

Khobar, Saudi Arabia

Young engineer thrust into the Aramco projects all over the country. All the Oil Fields in the east. Yanbu, Jeddah and more
Corrosion
New experience and desert adventures all in the name of work
Bit 'strict' but adhere to the local laws of the country and no problems

no more religion topics - thanks by Julien

Hi everybody, we noticed more and more religion-oriented discussions these days. It's just too much for us. We are an expat website ! Respect each other, and discuss about religion in private (or on another forum). We won't hesitate to moderate. ...

MickyT

I am in full agreement with you Julien...having worked around the world for many years I have learned never talk about religion or politics in the country I live. Why rock a boat that is sailing on calm seas...... Read More
