About
I am Puerto Rican, resident in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have been retired for three years and, due to the great fiscal crisis that my country is going through, I am exploring the possibility of going to live in another country where my pension money will yield more value and I can live, with my wife, without having to work.
So far I have identified several options, all in South America, where it seems that what I am looking for can be achieved: Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay. I assure you that it is not easy to carry out this research exercise because I read so many conflicting comments, so many pros and so many against each place that my brain is spinning.
Ecuador, specifically Cuenca, catches my attention, based on what I have read regarding its climate (my wife hates the heat), architecture, history, its people, its gastronomy, the use of the dollar and other characteristics. I have plans to visit Cuenca and Quito, which I also find interesting, at the end of this year to make a personal evaluation of these cities. Later, if necessary, I would visit Bolivia and Paraguay.
I confess that Argentina was at the top of my preference list but I have read that it is much more expensive than the other cities I mentioned and it seems that I will have to discard it, which saddens me.
I hope to find information in this forum that will help me in this search process.
I wish myself luck!
