About

Hi, I am currently a full-time student in New Mexico. My husband and I hope to one day move to and live in and retire in England for health reasons. My goal in joining this site is to learn if that dream is possible and how to attain my goal. I also don't mind sharing my personal living experiences to help others who may be thinking about coming here. :)
Interests: reading, camping, housewife

I moved a lot around the U.S. throughout my childhood. Most of my life has been spent in New Mexico off and on. I belong to an historical reenactment organization that likes to reenact medieval times. This participation usually includes camping in the warmer months. I have a small family here with parents, siblings & their families, a husband, and a step-daughter. I go to school full time with aspirations to be a history teacher.

Fairly cheap to live here, but the pay is reflected in the cost of living. The culture is simply beautiful as I'm surrounded by Native American Indian pueblos and also a large number of Mexicans or Latin Americans. Walking around the mall for the afternoon, I will sometimes hear others' conversations taking place in 3 or 4 different languages. New Mexico is in the desert, but it is also part of the Rocky Mountain chain so there is all types of weather here. There is a certain type of beauty in the wide, uninterrupted blue skies because of the general lack of large vegetation. The dust that lingers in the air does create some of the most spectacular sunsets! The general attitude of the local culture is extremely laid back and brotherly. Time and again I have had people passing through from other states commenting on how friendly we are here. Also, there is currently no sales tax on groceries. Toiletries, non-food items, and restaurant food, yes, groceries, no. I also like how once a year the governor waives all sales taxes on school supplies for one day.
Very dry and windy most of the year.

Hi Birdwatcher85, I would also like to point out the idea of moving to New Mexico as an option since we are also officially considered to be a part of the southwestern region of the U.S. This is where I live and I love it here. NM has a culture ... Read More

Hi lurman, You want to start directing your questions about visas to a representative at the U.S. embassy that is nearest to you. Try doing an internet search to find out where they are. Normally, you have to get a job and the company that hires ... Read More

Hi, I'm afraid that I don't know the information about immigration that you are asking for. I'm guessing you might want to start with talking to a representative at your nearest U.S. embassy (http://belgium.usembassy.gov/) in Brussels. I can, ... Read More

I know that some of these questions might seem a bit silly to someone who knows the answers, but I'd rather be sure about it all before we try to head over. Okay, so here are some more questions that have come to my mind lately.... 1) What are the ... Read More
