About
Hello everyone! My name is Nicholas. First of all, I apologize for my written French. I'm Russian, but it turned out not quite. This summer I experienced a big event. I always knew that my family's roots come from France, but I was never interested in the history of my paternal relatives. Earlier I was in Paris and I had the intention of searching the internet to see if there was any information on this subject. I discovered that my grandmother's sister wrote a whole book researching my great-grandfather.
His name was Jean-Jacques Landau. He worked as an engineer in a fairly famous French company called Batignolles.
At the end of the 19th century in St. Petersburg it was decided to build the bridge which was called to connect two islands: Petrogradsky and Admiralteysky. In 1892 a competition for the Troitsky (Trinity) Bridge project was announced. It was Eiffel who won this competition.
However, a new candidate has emerged. It was the project of the competing Batignolles company. The St. Petersburg architects' office chose the Batignolles project where my great-grandfather worked. This architectural solution was the most efficient and economical. This type of construction was the latest innovation. My great-grandfather was appointed engineer and head of works.
He reunited his family and they moved to SP. Afterwards the October revolution happened with all the consequences: arrest, imprisonment of the whole family. At that time my great-grandfather was born to the girl (the sister of my grandmother who wrote the book 鈥渂ridge in the fog鈥 where it is about my family). It was the first confinement, which did not last long. Jean-Jaques and his Breton wife have decided to leave Russia. However, they did not reach their homeland. They died on the way.
Soon Gustave Landau (my great-grandfather) was arrested for the second time. This time forever. He was shot and buried somewhere in Smolensk.
After learning this story I found the house where my family lived. This house is located in the 17th district of Paris, 14 rue du Debarcadere. I was very exciting.
At school I studied French. But that was in the last century and I forgot the knowledge. Now, when I learned all this, I decided to return to education. I always loved France. Its people and its culture. Now I know why. Because I am part of this people. Besides, I also do construction. But not bridges. These are log houses. Now the memory of my great-grandfather gives me strength.
Here I would like to find partners or simply friends.
