I'm a writer from Detroit who decided to trade in my car for a bicycle, my little bungalow for a fourth-story walkup, and my life in the Motor City for an existence in Amsterdam. Along the way, I quit my job, sold my belongings and, with a pregnant wife in tow, decided to see if the American dream wasn鈥檛 to be had somewhere overseas.
