I have lived here for 20years. I live in the city in a beautiful 1903 factory that we have turned into home. We live on the top floor and my husband has a woodwork workshop on the groundfloor. I have beautiful views of the harbour from my kitchen, Signal Hill and Lions Head from my bedroom. Motherhood happened late in my life at the age of 41yrs, but my son is the best 'artist', most demanding, most loving whom I've 'groomed'/'styled'! The best teacher of life who has certainly taught/reminded me how to be humble, grateful, gracious, truly happy, creative...
Hair & Make-up Artist. Work has taken me to al lot of beautiful locations, meeting wonderful/awful but probably never boring people. As a free-lancer accepted the fact that I am jobless until the next confirmation of movie, still, commercial.
I like that you can be on your own and not be bored (although we all know location has very little to do with that!) I can walk on the promenade and stop at the playpark to let my son play on the junglegym, jumping castle while I watch the sea, the boats, people jogging and just watching life happening in general.
I can no longer walk on and around Table Mountain. Too many muggings,stabbings. As a mother/woman I feel vulnerable and unsafe. I see some form of crime on my street corner on a daily basis. I cannot walk out my front door (that opens on the street) without encountering some form of harrassment. I cannot walk in the Company Gardens anymore without being completely on guard, watching over my shoulder constantly clutching my handbag.I do not answer my phone in public on the street. I would have loved to take my son on a trainride along the coast, but don't cause Public Transport is, well it is what it is and once again: mother and child once again a target for thugs! I am suspicious of men in uniform that are so-called there for my protection for corruption in this dept. is rife and scary!...
