Expensive. Not much to do 'here', always feel the need to go 'there' Reliance on having a car, even tho there are train stations close by.

South Dublin, Leinster, Ireland

Fantastic opportunity to 'go back' to Dublin and catch up with friends. My life, our life there was very enjoyable.
I rejoined the International Women's Club and got busy right away; was nominated VP which was very rewarding as I could give back to the Club, and was nominated incoming President (but we moved) Founding member of the International Parents Committee at school.
The friends. Dublin city. Proximity to Europe. Touring. Everything!

Oct 2011 - Aug 2013

Winchester, England, England

After coming out of Japan, Winchester was a shock and a huge learning curve. Not every expat-experience was going to be overflowing with positive adjectives. This one was tough but hindsight is a great thing and I'm OK looking back.
Like always, a mum, volunteer (tho not as much as the community was very different in terms of opening up to newbies).
The friends. The opportunity to explore the local area which was full of history and pretty villages. The proximity to London.

Dec 2009 - Sept 2012

Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan

Very much expat life as we were living in a S E Asian country, and our daughter was at the International School. My day-to-day life was very family oriented in terms of managing the house and supporting our daughter at school (she was 4 when we moved), making friends, exploring our local area and beyond. I was asked to volunteer on a parents committee at the local club and help create and run kids activities. It was a great way to be part of the community and meet people. The ladies on the committee became good friends (and some still are) I volunteered on the schools parents association and within a year was nominated for VP which I accepted and thoroughly enjoyed. We hosted many family and friends visits.
Mum. Volunteer. I also started blogging while living here.
LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about Japan (but not the earthquakes) The food. Being surrounded by a totally different culture to what I'd grown up in. Learning new things all the time. The small daily successes in simple things like buying bread or catching a train and making it to your destination and home with out a mistake. The friends.
