About

Growing up in Small Town America, in the home that my great grandfather built, instilled in me an appreciation of my American roots and love of Country. The blood of Roger Williams, defender of religious freedom and founder of Rhode Island, Jonathan Alder, pioneer captured and raised by the Shawnee Indians, Stephen Foster, the father of American music and William Travis, commander of the Alamo run through my veins. I grew up in the land of opportunity. I married, raised a family and prospered. I achieved the American Dream. That dream is no longer possible for my grandchildren. My country is morally and economically in decline. My retirement investments have lost half their value. My husband, born in India and I have decided to outsource our retirement. January 13, 2013 we packed up our clothing, electronics and two dogs and moved to India. As my husband put it, we were going home. I had never been. The India that I know comes from the memories and stories my husband tells of forty years ago, old Indian movies and from what I have read. Can I live happily here? Can I make the transition to my husband's customs and culture? Can I do without the conveniences that I now take for granted? Will I want to stay? Will his family accept me, a previously married White woman? I do know I am on one fantastic journey. Every day is full of new discoveries, realizations and sometimes frustrations with IndiaLiving.

I lived in India for a total of 2 1/2 years. I love the Indian people and the culture. My husband and I found that we can not be happy there due to the lack of infrastructure. He plans to visit on and off. I will not go back because India will not allow me to being our 2 small dogs. The rules have changed. I must wait for 2 years before before I can bring them back. Even then it is very difficult and costly. Even with the proper paper work and NOC. they were held by customs in Delhi for 2 days in their crates. We were not allowed to remove them. THERE WERE STUCK THERE FOR 2 DAYS IN THERE WASTE! After much begging my husband was allow to feed them. i WILL NEVER BRING MY DOGS TO India again. I will not visit without them. I am now looking at Ecuador as a possible location to retire.
Retired nurse.
I'm happy to be back in the States for now. It is clean with excellent infrastructure.
It is very expensive to live in the States. Sadly it is difficult to find non-GMO food. All of our processed food contains corn syrup and is laden with preservatives. Organic food is very expensive. The cost of health care is exorbitant. Health insurance is expensive with high deductibles. Though the infrastructure is good, I am beginning to see it start to crumble. The America I knew growing up is no more.
