My expat journey

Cluj-Napoca, Romania
I moved to Cluj-Napoca from Targu-Mures in September 2014 to extend my experience of Romania and being employment in a new company which offers me many exciting opportunities.
I have an ongoing passion for my photography and have already made steps to launch the brand here in Cluj-Napoca and will hopefully build up a good customer-base here just like when I was living in Targu-Mures!
I work for US Technical / Customer Support company in an entirely English speaking role as this seems to be something I'm quite good at being a native!
I noticed that there is quite a demand for English speaking employees here so if anyone is interested in an opportunity, please get in contact and maybe I can assist some how.
The scale of this city compared to Targu-Mures is incredible. So large and diverse with lots of culture and history! Cluj offers so much opportunities and entertainment.
The public transportation network is very reliable with standard buses, electric buses and even a tram network.
It's got many public attractions and malls to visit and there is always something happening here.
Something to be sort-of careful of are some of the Taxi drivers. Sadly, and this never happened in Targu-Mures, it would seem that cab drivers are aware of Cluj having a large student / overseas population and that people are not necessarily familiar with the city and therefore there have been a couple of occasions where the driver chose not to start his meter or went a longer route.
This is rare but worth taking note of.. even if the price difference is very low, it's not really fair.

Targu-Mures, Romania
When I moved to Targu-Mures, I established my Photography brand (ALR Photography) and began working for a UK Company in an English speaking customer service position
I want to learn Romanian so that I can have a decent conversation with someone as so many people here speak English.. I feel it is my duty.
I worked as a call centre support agent for a UK brand in an entirely English speaking role as well as being a photographer.
It is populated mainly by Hungarian and Romanian people with about 40% of the population of Transylvania being Hungarian.
The city is a beautiful place and has a lot of interesting places to visit and I must say some good night life too.
I have met and spent time with a lot of people here since I moved in July and now have some great friends in this city.
The thing about this country that I admire is peoples diversity. Not so much personal diversity, but their language diversity. Coming from England, we are mainly taught only one language and the others are optional and that is obviously English.
In Targu-Mures people are speaking typically at least 2 languages, Hungarian and Romanian and then on top of this the next language is usually English which they are now learning at a Kindergarten level which amazed me to speak to a friends nephew and have him say hello to me in English and ask me how I am at the age of about 5.
Since I arrived many people have me out with settling down
There is still a very dominant feeling of the Communist era. Many of the apartments that I have seen reflect this style of architecture. To me as an outsider, I find this history fascinating and I need to learn more about this history of Romania because there really is so much to it.
The thing that I really love about this country is how different one place can be from the other. You can be in a heavily populated city or estate and then 15 minutes down the road you are in a village where some people are still using horse and cart to move around. This really does have a charm to it that I think you can only really appreciate when you are here.
There are many bad opinions of Romania and Romanians in general. The media in the UK has worked very hard to cover the issues of immigration and crime related to Romanian inhabitants but I can say that these images of Romanian people and society are so tainted and in most cases false.
Every place on this planet has a fair share of crime and the same is for Romania and it cannot be expected for everyone to be perfect and this is true for anyone.

Bristol, England
I wish to take my experience in customer service, photography and tech support and secure employment in Romania after I have finished raising enough money to rent a property there for a few months (which will hopefully be by the end of July max).
