I wanted to learn Russian and bring back a Russian samovar. I don't know how to speak Russian and I didn't bring a samovar. 1984 by George Orwell is the book that comes to mind when I think of this former Soviet Union country.
French teacher
Lamb shashliks (skewers) with vinegar sauce; the warm welcome of rural people throughout Central Asia; my two Kazakh and Kazakhstani friends respectively.
Lack of critical thinking; the absence of logic and the absence of culture. Large buildings and large soulless shopping centers, enclosing brand stores and fast food restaurants: this sums up the culture of the nouveau riche in the world who dominate this planet.
