Adele, I second the recommendation to learn Catalan! Even though it's not "necessary" for living here, for me it has utterly transformed the degree to which I feel at home. I took one of those free classes from the Generalitat, and starting from a ... Read More

Camino de San Juan

Wow, this sounds like an amazing trip. I've never walked the camino, but am always curious about it and have read quite a bit of literature on the subject. Such a fascinating history and tradition. Have a wonderful experience! Read More

Who to travel from Belgium to Barcelona very very cheap???

My husband and I commute between Brussels and Barcelona regularly, and the cheapest bet is to travel with Vueling, the low-cost airline. Keep checking for sales and be flexible with your dates...sometimes prices can drop really low! Read More

Catalan food that is really good....

I agree about pa amb tomaquet! And I love samfaina and escalivada (both of them versions of eggplant, pepper and onion), as well as esqueixat (a cold cod salad) and any number of fish preparations, like bacalla a la llauna, black rice (rice with ... Read More

We had a pretty good experience buying our washer and dryer from Mir贸 (several locations throughout the city--there's one on Ronda Sant Antoni and one on Carrer de Sants). I did a lot of price comparison, including El Corte Ingl茅s, and Mir贸 had the ... Read More

Going out in Barcelona by expat.com

Hi there, Which are your 10 favorite places to go out in Barcelona? Which places would you recommend to newcomers? (restaurants, pubs, discos, theaters, cinemas, concert halls...) Thanks!

For music and cinema: 1. The Liceu opera hall. Beautiful space, can often get cheap tickets at the last minute. 2. Palau de la Musica Catalana. Ditto. 3. Verdi Cinema in Gracia. Independent cinema with great nightlife in the area, perfect for a ... Read More

Dinner hours by Katie

I have a simple question: What time do you all eat dinner - the evening meal? I was just in the U.S. and the television ads would have me believe that the ideal is to walk in the door (home from work), go directly to the table and eat. When I ...

cantdocell

My husband is Spanish and we keep Spanish eating hours: 2-3 ish for lunch, 8:30-10 for dinner. 8:30 would be considered an "early" dinner! It's ideal if you really do stick to eating the bigger meal at lunchtime. Problem is, any time we eat out it's ... Read More
