About

I married my husband in León, Guanajuato, Mexico in December of 2013. We previously applied for a fiancé visa in 2012 and were denied. I lived in León for a short time beginning in August 2014. I found it very difficult to find a job, as most schools required that I be a citizen. I went through the process of applying for my citizenship (my father is Mexican) but, because of a spelling difference on his Mexican birth certificate and U.S. passport, I was told I could have been using "anyone's information to get citizenship" and was denied. I have since returned to Chicago and am in the process of preparing a spouse visa application. Prior to completing the application, I requested a FOIA in the attempt to prepare myself for any information that might lead to a denial of the K1 visa. After 6 months of waiting, I received a response which could have resulted in the most amateur of searches. I have since sent an appeal in the hopes of receiving more information.
