I come from Paris and have lived in Taiwan since 1996... To put me in perspective, I had a 25-year military career in the paratroops and I joined TH/CSF in France in 1988 and subsequently Taipei as Vice President, to open with the President appointed at the time the Taiwan delegation (Thomson-CSF which became Thales in 2000) which still exists. Since then, of course, I retired here in 2004. Taiwan is an island elongated from south to north and dominated to the east by a long chain of rocky mountains (< 3,997 m) which occupies two thirds of the country. This softens towards the west until it forms fertile plains along the coasts. This is also where the cities are concentrated. As a result, the island has one of the highest population densities in the world with 573 inhabitants/km2. Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism are also practiced there by a Christian minority. Officially, the island still belongs to China (which is why there are only "representations" and not Taiwan embassies abroad) to which it should sooner or later be "reintegrated". It's a country where life is good. No insecurity. Modern and very clean city. The Taiwanese are too. Warm tropical climate. The typhoon period generally extends from July to October. The island of Taiwan is periodically subject to earthquakes with magnitudes between 3 and 卤7 on the Richter scale. Destination for businessmen and travelers with more than 5 million visitors on average. For several decades, Taiwan has been an essential trading center in the Asia-Pacific region and the world in terms of exports of finished and industrial products. Taiwan's history is rich and colorful. The island became a protectorate of the Chinese Empire in 1206, the year of the founding of the Yuan dynasty by the Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan. It then became a prefecture of the mainland province of Fujien in 1684, and in 1885, during the reign of the Ching and Manchu, Taiwan was proclaimed a separate province from China. Taiwanese cuisine, as a whole, is simple, rustic cuisine that makes the best use of the natural ingredients available. It has experienced renewed vigor in recent years. Two major influences have conditioned its development: the particular geography of Taiwan and international influences. Taiwan controls nearly half of the world's production of portable microcomputers. The total production of electronic equipment, valued at nearly 90 billion US dollars, places Taiwan third in the world in the IT industry. This is Taiwan in a few lines. Thanks for reading.
