Permanent House Swap

danglau

Has anyone here explored a permanent house swap or a multi‑house swap as part of a lifestyle change?

I’m curious how people have approached long‑term exchanges when moving between countries, especially those looking for more nature, space, or a slower pace of life.

If you’ve done something similar, I’d love to hear what the process looked like and any insights you picked up along the way.

Hi, we know a couple from the Dominican republic who swapped their house for one here in Italy some years ago.

There is an agency in Rome that has all the required licences and pioneered these exchanges 10 years ago. There are a few websites on line that specialise and a few that have both usual adverts for sale and for property exchanges and this has been highlighted on the immobilare.it site

The legal aspects are that the property is an asset and is treated as such with any balance between the properties is managed as usual through bank transfers and exchange of deeds requires a notary, exactly like a normal property sale/purchase.

Notaries who will deal with this type of property ''sale'' are few, usually found in the larger cities such as Milan and Rome .

Hope this is of use

You may wish to say which country, you get a better response.
