How many times have you moved?

Americans are known to move every 1 or 2 years...
I wonder if you have moved as often as them...

Was it in the same city/region/country?

I lived in the Loire Valley, in Normandy and in Paris.
Then i moved to Africa. Back to France, I lived in Strasbourg and in the Paris area.

It's my second appartement in Montreal... and not the last one. :-)

Well, I moved 3 times in America, from Delaware to North Carolina, from North Carolina to Tennessee (Nashville).聽 All of these were because of my dad's job.聽 Within Nashville I moved to different houses/apartments a couple of times, so I don't count those.

With our upcoming move to Thessaloniki in 2 weeks I'll have to move to the 6-9 times column!聽 I moved from Nashville to Athens, from Athens to Kos, and from Kos to Mt. Olympus (where I am now.聽 I am getting tired of moving. =p

I have moved *at least* 64 times since 1987.聽 So I know the feeling!聽 But as I found, once you start, you just can't stop!聽 it's nice to have a place to call home, but while sitting at home, what do you see?聽 Feel?聽 Experience?聽 NADA!聽 On the road, moving, travelling, you are learning and experiencing all varities of new cultures and the knowledge is worth far more than gold itself!

Since 1996 (I was 18) I've lived in 4 French cities (5 flats ), 2 cities in Spain (2 flats), and London (3 shared flats in 2 years).

hmm, it took a while to count, but disregarding moving within a city, i've been moving 7 times.
4 different places in south africa and 4 different places in germany. moving to dublin in january will push up the counter by another tick.
if i counted the different flats/houses and all i'd be somewhere at 16 times...
guess that's the reason why i never bothered collecting anything, it's just too much a hassle to drag everything along with you everytime you relocate.

First time I move as long outside France. I've been twice in Spain (Lerida & Barcelona), Andorra, Italy (Ventimile, San Remo), twice in London & its suburbs, once in Estonia (Tallinn), around 5 times in Martinique, I'm from there! almost every French region, principaut茅 de Monaco and so I moved since last September in Finland. I planed to visite Stockholm, St Petersburg, Moscow, Oslo next year and London for the New Year Day.

Next year? Probably Stockholm and its region, I'll stay for 1 night. I guess I'll come back in Estonia聽 'cause last time I didn't have enough time for visiting the "old" Tallinn.

I moved 13 times while I was living with my parents...from Sweden, to France, to Sweden again, to England, to Sweden again (they love to move and can麓t really be used to stay in one country)..and since then I followed their habits...I moved myself 5 times afterwards...Sweden, France, Spain, Switerzland and Spain again....But now really I would like to settlle down and to stay in one country for a longer time!!!But next stop would be Argentina...but when?Destiny knows!

- Falmouth, Cornwall, England
- Madrid
- Turin, Italy
- London
- Lausanne
- Lima, Peru (let's say most of the time, not the best place to be in Peru though... )
- Sucre, Bolivia
- Chisinau, Moldova
- Timisoara, Romania

and maybe NY will be my next stop but I'm not sure yet...

What do you think if we give an award to LOSTINEUROPE?

Unfortunately, he didn't give us the time he has been in all those places. So far, he is the winner!
I believe that if you still move from one place to another you can sell your story and make the CATCH ME IF YOU CAN 2!

I'm actually amazed by all of you. I prefer to go from one place to another in holidays. If I like what I see, I start to think of moving there...

I put 'moved only once' on the poll.聽 I didn't count moving within one country as a move.

I'm more interested in expats motivation for moving.

In our case, we moved as a family to escape the UK and its crushing, suffocating PC culture.聽 We first went to Gibraltar for six months (does that count as another country?), and then to Spain.

The future?聽 Looking to retire to Latin America, so actively watching developments there.

Hi movers,

After 20 years in Grenoble (France) my first move was to go to Montreal (1993) then back to Paris (France - not a good experience so ) back to Montreal (1995), one year to Toulouse (France - 1998) then back to Montreal :-)聽 [ of course in Montreal several flats ....]
Finally move to Chile in december 2000 up to know.
Next march, big move : Grenoble France !

I must say that I'm fed up with boxes, open and close bank account, planes etc ..
So really happy to fo to Europe. For how long, I don't know but probably for a while. (may be not....)

Ive moved around 10 times so far.

When I do the math, it comes out to moving about every 1-2 years. Im long overdue for moving right now and bored where I live. Also its been more than 4 years in the same country by now... very boring.

Good thing that in February Im moving to Latvia

In Germany alone I moved during childhood about 3 times, worked in Spain, moved 2 times there, lived in Koblenz Germany for 8 years, but moved 7 times in that region, after that it's a cross countries back and forth movement mix.
I still can list it, but that would just be too much for my sleepy head this morning聽

3 times in the UK

I moved out of the country first when I was 5 years old. My family first moved to Mexico, and then moved to Indonesia. The cycle of moving back and forth from the US to different places in Indonesia continued until I started college in Chicago, and now I am in Dallas.

I'm up for another move... anywhere other than the US!

I lived abroad for the first time as an 18 year old student in 1979 when originally from Nottingham, England I moved to Amsterdam.
Since 1994 thru 2009 I have lived in the following places and am just about to relocate again.

It doesnt count. Counts if you move to another country. I move 2 times abroad my born country (not because i didn't want more, just because i'm from such country that I ALWAYS have problems with visas). And about 7 times inside it

And visited about 20 countries i think (couple month stay i dont consider as moving)...

Twice - Once from Belgium (I barely awaited my studies to finish there). But now in Japan I am not in a hurry to move again. Anyway one day I suppose I will have to move to US unless China takes over meanwhile

As a military officer in Pakistan, my father got transferred to many locations and we moved all the time. All 5 of us brothers and sisters were born in different cities in Pakistan.

We have taken it a couple of steps further as a family. All of my siblings live in different countries (Ukraine, Pakistan, Saudi, Libya, USA). All three of my children were born not in different cities but in different countries on different continents......... LOL

Europe (Scotland), Asia (Pakistan), North America (Canada).....

In my entire life the maximum i have stayed in any one city is five years. I don't count moves within the cities as a move per se.

I don't mind it, in fact I sort of look forward to it as it brings a lot of challenges and thrills with it.

We are currently in North Africa for the last 2 1/2 years. Let's see what's next in store.

Moved from El Paso Texas to Bangkok Thailand. From there to Fayetteville, North Carolina. From there to Washington D.C. 聟 from there to Beirut, Lebanon. From there to McLean, Virginia 聟 from there to Carlisle, Pennsylvania. From there to Oberursal, Germany, from there back to Carlisle 聟 then to Lynchburg, Virginia, then to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. Then to Fairfax, Virginia, then to Manassas, Virginia, then to Plano, Texas, then to Andover, Massachusetts, then to Lynchburg, Virginia, then to Roanoke, Virginia. This ALL started in 1950 ... it is now 2009. My father worked for the CIA ... then commanded Army Intelligence in Germany. I loved every move ... but have lost touch with MANY special people.
