I'm wondering if you know the Working Holiday Visa (WH Visa) ??? 
What a good invention !! isn't it ?
For now and for french people, there are 4 possible destinations : Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
The principle is to get a one year visa that enables you to work in the country you are visiting !! The only condition is to not work more than 3 months for the same company... Then, you will find more often little jobs as fruit picking or barman ; but it is easy to find and moreover you can travel easier and more time. It could be necessary to visit all the Canada or all the Australia without spending to much money 
!! But don't dream you will not be richer than before you left ... I mean for the money, because for the experience, it should be awesome 
!
I'm very interested in Australia for many years .... I think it is a dream to go there 
And maybe I will go with a WH Visa in three years after finishing my PhD in Italia
