How to make friends in Egypt
i think its an awesome idea, lets just make sure no one crashes the gathering, so we can set up a google sheet or something so that we dont have any uninvited surprises...

im moving to Mohanadissen in novemember. going to be a head chef at Richoux nead the shooting club. very excited and nervous. but cant wait to meet new people and to become a customed to new ways.聽 i have also joined the neetworking group called internations on the net. they are a networking expat group that has social gatherings all over the world and the next one in cairo is next week.(Moderated: No free advertising, Please)
ive made friends and i havent even arrived yet.
I am half egyptian/half canadian myself, but my parents live in Egypt, so I have a good grip on the culture. It is quite easy to make friends here and as Irish woman said, the people are very sociable:), you just need the right context. It usually works聽 to be introdeuced via friends to other friends indeed:). I live now in Belgium but travel to cairo frequently. If it is a good idea, we can organize a social gathering and I can bring a few of my friends in the mix who will be able to introduce you further. It will be nice to have it in Heliopolis or over the bank of the nile. So, get back to me if you think that is a good idea:)) Have a good day. Hany
moveable feast wrote:you are so right about going out in Cairo.聽 I've been here nearly three years and I only go outside Maadi to work or visit my horse.聽 Its just not worth it any other way.聽 and I get lost all the time and by the time you're out its time to go home!
I work full time and its really hard to make friends here.聽 I've kind of given up which is sad.
nice to know its not just me who struggles with soclialising her though - I was in Dubai before and it was really easy.

Same here, i was living befor in Dubai and it was much easier. BUt im just quit new here so i will try to meet and have a privat life, cause im working full like you and just for this i need friends around me. But im thinking if moving to Maadi really the best to get social, cause im stazing in Giza area close to work.

Lets get this started. Who is organizing the meet up?
i am Egyptian and my wife is Russian, and we are trying to build a common friends, plus my old school and family friends, any one there who have the same?

How about you make a plan?
Coffee Bean Tea Leaf
Zamalek
Abu Alfeda Street
Next to Umkulthoom Hotel
Pretty popular but spacious. Guaranteed to find a table.

As for me, another disaster in Cairo is public transport. Every time you want to go anywhere you have to catch a taxi..And speak to them arabic and show them the way in Nasr, thoughi'm not strong enough neither in Arabic nor in airo streets))
I think the best way to make friends in Egypt is not through the internet. Take Arabic classes and make friends with the people there. Go to international church or other expat community and make friends there. Join a gym and make friends there.
Sorry to the Egyptian guys on this forum but as a expat lady who has lived in Egypt for almost 7 years (2 single and 5 married), it is NOT recommended that (if you're female) you meet up with Egyptian guys that you met on an expat forum.
Yes Egyptians are very friendly and they are so much fun. But they may not understand the culture you're coming from so you do need to make sure that you learn at least a little about the culture here. That way you can avoid making cultural no-nos that you will be embarrassed about later.
That's my 2 cents.

Welcome! Have you done any photography in Egypt? I'd recommend "Al Azhar Park". You are guaranteed nice photos there
I need another place beside Al-Azhar park. Have any idea sir?
Right now i live in Cairo, but i travel to Alex from time to time for some business.
Great idea for all people here to know each others.
Take care
Also do you know any cool things to do in these 2 places?
It's good to have this topic active, I am a northern Sudanese, I live in Cairo (Maadi) since last June, I feel that there can be good social life here but unfortunately it needs some company and I don't find it easy to make new freinds specially that everyone is stressed and very alerted with the current situation that we see in the media and I always prefer staying in Maadi.
Me too is facing the same problems.about how to make and find good friends here.I've been here about 10 years now,the past 6 years was lonely, homesick, and i only knew one friend but too far from my place so i can't go visit her easy.but now i get used to it and i start to knew more friends from knowing one friend, she introduce me to all her friends and now I'm fine
but still can't go hang out with them easily because we all lived far from each other.I now knew how to drive and got license
but I;m too afraid to drive on high ways because of traffics and some vehicles are really driving crazy in a very high speed specially those buses, they drive like they are the king of high ways and dont even respect traffic policy.another problem also is that i don't know聽 much about streets here and that's also a reason why i don't go out side our area because of scared聽 to lost
.when ever i plan to visit friends i let my husband drive for me.Make your relocation easier with the Egypt expat guide
