There is no Walmart in Egypt. But there is similar hypermarket which is "Carrefour". You can find there everything you need.

My suggestion to you is to try to find whatever you need in big hybermarkets first.

We don't have in Egypt places were you can call literally "Souk". What we have here in Egypt is that聽 some neighbourhoods聽 famous of selling stuff "where you can find fair quality and some times good ones" with reasonable prices.

Please note that, i don't recommend you to go shopping there by your self, you have to have an Egyptian accompany you unless you are aware with the Eyptian currency and the Egyptian way of bargaining.

The following are not all but some examples of local shoppig areas (in heliopolis and downtown):

1- In Heliopolis: "The Mosque square" neighbourhood which is called in Arabic "Middan Elgamee" --- is an area which is famous of selling jewelries (gold/silver), watches, bedding, home accessories.

2- In Helipopolis: The "damascus street" , this street is divided in to two parts the first part is famous of home accessories and the second part is famous of car accessories.聽

3- In downtown: "Abdelaziz street/ of El-Attaba square", this street is famous of聽 home electrical appliances and Cellphones/cellphones' accessories.

4- In downtown: "Sherif street/ of Opera square", this area is famous of clothes and home accessories (suites, shirts, shoes, bedding,...etc.).

5- Omar Effendi stores: this chain is everywhere and they sell fair quality/fair prices of all the stuff you need.

6- "Khan el khalili" neighbourhood: which is an old area where you can find jewelary and Egyptian souvenirs.

I'm going to the carrefour supermarket in downtown first, if they don't have stuff I need, I'll head to the hypermarket. But I will go to those market sometime, maybe not buy, but see.

Sorry in Cairo we have Carefour,which is similar to Wallmart,Good luck.

There are Carrefour, Spinney's, Hyper One, check their websites for locations. Carrefour and Spinney's have their offers online.


Maybe you can also check one of the "El Tawheed & El Nour" department stores, shattered all over the city. Check yellowpages for exact locations.

Carrefour is also in Maadi (next to the ring road) and Spinney's is also in City stars.
