Moving to Ghana from US

As it is getting closer to my move date I have been receiving text messages on my phone, messages on Whatsapp, from strangers telling me they know about me coming to Ghana.聽 Some are warning me I am about to be scammed.聽 None of my friends or family want me to move.聽

I recently spoke to a friend who was born and raised in Ghana.聽 I met her at an airport during a layover.聽 She advised me against moving to Ghana.聽 Does anyone else have this experience.聽 Is Ghana such a bad place to live.聽 It is actually scaring me

Sorry to be blunt..
I'm telling you Ghana for me is a wonderful place that I am planning on moving to in like a few years.
It all depends on how you feel.聽 If u never visited go and see for yourself.聽 It's an amazing country with amazing people.聽 But like everywhere u have bad and good people. It all depends on you.
I am going back this year because there is much more to see and experience in Ghana.
If u have Ghanaian roots even better because you will feel more at ease. But hey I'm just a white Portuguese guy who just happened to fell in love with a great country with amazing people..

So sorry to read about these experiences that are putting you off. I moved here 4 months ago without聽 even visiting first and immediately fell in love with Ghana and its people. My family are from Jamaica and I was born and raised in the UK. I tried living in Jamaica and in the USA but I have to say I feel so safe and at peace here in Ghana unlike other countries I have lived and worked. The people in Ghana are peaceful humble and very respectful. Sure you're going to come across some unscrupulous individuals but these unfortunately are everywhere. Come and see Ghana for yourself - you will love it.聽

Not sure why you have decided to move to Ghana. Whatever the reason, you need to make sure you have a sound financial base as Accra, if that is where you intend to live, is not cheap.
My Ghanaian husband and I moved here in 2010 and we ensured we had a comfortable house with stable water supply and back-up electricity. Uber is operational now but when we came a car was also an essential.
I enjoy my life here and feel it is a good quality of life. However I had lived in Ghana in 1990s so knew what I was coming to. I would suggest you coming for a few months to make sure you like life here before making a final move.

You will likely face people overcharging you and relying on your ignorance, or perceived ignorance, in matters of money. Poor people are desperate in Ghana and sometimes try to cheat foreigners to make an extra buck. Also, because much of the economy is informal, it's easier for people to lie and avoid accountability. The good part is, many would-be scammers in Ghana are not very intelligent or educated, so they're relatively easy to spot by their blunders. And Ghana is safe. Violent crime rates are low, and freedoms are protected. You will be safe. You just need to be smart. Do not take people's word as truth, ask lots of questions, and always try to put in place accountability measures and checks in all your transactions. No need to be worried, just be prudent.

I gave up on Ghana . Too expensive for the conditions of the country.聽 Too many other countries cheaper with better everything, your government has let the citizens down , corruption is killing progress. It鈥檚 sad but think about it, why is the electric so bad? With out good electric no progress can ever be achieved. Roads?

ghana isnt bad as people make it seems..there are bad people everywhere..i am proud to be a ghanaian and have lived all my life here..all i would advice is just be cautious and just enjoy the experience..Ghana is a wonderful country and who are those people texting you would.be scammed here? ghana聽 isnt bad as people make it seems..is a free democratic country and also with those strangers ..are you sure u didnt give your number out to strangers....

Your points are not the issue, the people are cool in Ghana lije most of Africa. It鈥檚 all about corruption in your government that is killing Africa. Europe has destroyed Africa with terrible contracts for minerals and resources. Now Ghana and other African countries are dealing with China? China is the worst possible country to allow into Africa . China lives weak governments snd corruption. They will take all your resources and leave you with nothing.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your Ghanaian experience and I understand your disillusionment but it isn't the same for everyone. Yes there are challenges and corruption but if you find the right living environment and are financially stable then you can make a very good life here.

Never a bad place to live if you know or get to meet the right people .聽 Obviously there is corruption or some negative aspects to every county , Ghana isn鈥檛 excluded. But I confidently disagree to the scary illustrations your friend gave you of this peaceful country. I hope you have not been persuaded to deny yourself a great and a memorable experience in Ghana.

@sophiesplace51聽聽Is that all dear? I鈥檓 very sorry to hear of your experience with some very hungry people. It鈥檚 unfortunate you didn鈥檛 get to associate with some of us who would have accompanied you with the objective of socializing other than profits. There鈥檚 really no 90% lie in what I said, if it鈥檚 about people begging you for money, well let me know if there aren鈥檛 any in some first world聽 countries . I hope you re-consider your perception of Ghana, and I hope it moves from a negative聽 to a very positive one. Thank you.

come prepared financially,

Security wise.. etc

Have a mindset of coming to Paradise.

And trust you me, you won鈥檛 love to go back 馃構馃コ

lets have a drink 馃 together @Labadi 馃彇 beach
