Am I an immigrant or Tourist?

So later this year I am moving with wife (who is a Mauritian Citizen) to Mauritius.

When we go through customs do I say I'm here for a holiday and then go to apply for residency within that month, or declare I'm here to stay at customs, will I then be put in a room for questioning?

For reference, I'm financially ok and should be able to get residency without too much of an issue.

Be as honest as possible and tell them that you are spouse of a mauritian and will be staying here with her.

Do you have all your documents ? Like mariage certificate etc ?

I do, marriage certificate, birth certificate, police conduct record, wife's letter, photos galore, bank statement, etc.

So honesty upfront is best.

Yes everything will be fine.

Tell them that you are married to a Mauritian citizen and that you will initiate process of settling / applying for the appropriate permit.

Try to contact them before you come and ask for the list because if you miss any paper you will not be able to stay long time just (2 months) if everything is okay and complete, they will proceed and after that they will give you UID for Non citizens (2 years) after that you go to renew it again until you get your residency.
