Divorcing.

Mark2208

Hi, I am an Expat living here since 2011. I married my Mauritian wife in 2013. We have 9 yo twins. My wife surprised me when she said she wants a divorce.

My question is, what are my rights as an expat father? Would I have to leave my children here and leave Mauritius? She has said we can have joint custody but I still do not know if I can stay here. I do not have Naturalisation as yet. Ive been told I can stay till they 18.

If anyone has info please let me know, I dont wanna lose my kids.

Get advice from your lawyer in the first instance of course or take a new lawyer who has expertise in these matters.

there is some information here

also note that if you have a 'spouse permit to reside' only to reside in Mauritius then on final divorce decree you will have to give up the permit and they then give you a letter asking you to leave Mauritius on or before 6 months is up.
