Would this be enough to live a good life?

Hi there

My husband has just been made an offer of 3500 euros to work in Mauritius.聽 He gets transport to and from work but I would still have to get a car for my son and I.

We're waiting on the final documentation to see if that includes a housing allowance or not.

Do you think 3500 euros is enough to live a really good life for 2 adults and 1 toddler?

I have the following budget worked out - please amend it as you wish.

Salary聽 聽 124000 (euros converted to MUR minus 11.41% tax)
Rent聽 聽 30000
Car聽 聽 25000
Gas聽 聽 1000
Food聽 聽 20000
Water聽 聽 1500
Elec聽 聽 1500
School聽 聽 6000 (this is for primary school but not sure of preschool cost)
Medical aid聽 聽 500 (per month - i heard it's 6000 per year but not sure for how many people)
Internet聽 聽 1000
Satellite tv聽 聽 1500
Phones聽 聽 1000
Domestic worker聽 聽 8000
Entertainment聽 聽 3000
Takeaways聽 聽 1000
My study fees in South Africa 4400
Savings聽 聽 16000

Left over聽 2600??????

Is that cutting it fine? and are my estimates realistic?

Please help - we need to give an answer asap!

THANK YOU :)

Hello and welcome on 大咖福利影院 evestyles :)

Maybe you should have a look at this thread on the Mauritius forum: /forum/viewtopic.php?id=5090
The various contributions will certainly help you!

THanks again Armand!

That link doesn't seem to work though

I have looked at the Cost of Living posts but all the amounts vary greatly so there are prices e.g. major differences in prices per month from different people so I don't know what is correct
The link should be working now :)
As it is an old thread i guess some prices have changed and people have different perceptions on how much is enough but you should have a global idea of prices in Mauritius.
In my opinion 3500 Euros are largely enough for your family of 3 ;)

Most people earn between Rs 5000 - Rs 20.000 / month. You should be fine :-)
Thanks lina but not sure where you get that amount from. Apparently u have to earn at least 30000 in order to get ur visa to work there!
Hey,

I don't know exactly where you get it wrong in your estimates, but boy, 3500 euros is like, WOW. Plus a car? Way to go!!! You can get a good nice house for far less than 30000 though. And 8000 in domestic aids sounds a hell of a lot, but I may be wrong.

That's what most Mauritians earn, from what I've seen. And I tend to keep my eyes wide open :-)

Good luck with your new life. Cherio!

hi there, you can always cut down domestic work. invest in washing & drying machines, dish washers. we had a domestic for some time, and i went directly to "machines" :) : ie:-washing machine, dish washing, vacuum cleaners, ovens, solar heaters. can reap benefits after 10 months :)

cheers & good day,
islander.
