Occupation permit & getting in contact with fellow expats

Valkiria86

Hello everyone! :)

I'm Marina, a Spanish woman living in London since 2016.
I have decided to move to Mauritius so I've started doing a proper research on the occupation permit, housing and jobs.

I would love to get in contact with groups of Spanish, African, English/American and people from other countries to create some bonds before I actually move, since that's always nice :)

Could someone give me some directions on how to do so, please?

Thank you very much in advance.

Marina

Hi Yaya,

Thank you very much for the link.

I checked yesterday about the OP but it didn't mention anything about the fact that the Director of HHRR or representative must accompany the applicant!

I believe that the best thing to do is find a job first and then move there. Since I am an EU citizen I'm allowed to stay for up to 90 days and I'm hoping it doesn't take very long for the government to process it... Do you know what's the average time they take?

Thanks a lot :)

As an EU citizen , you are eligible to stay 180 days in a calendar yr on a tourist visa . However, since you are planning to look for a job, you won't be able to convert that tourist visa to an OP . You need to come   on a business visa to do what you are planning.  Then you will have only 120 days on such a visa to stay on the island

Code:

Investors, entrepreneurs, professionals who choose to invest, work and live in Mauritius should request for a business visa on arrival. Investors, entrepreneurs, professionals are eligible for business visa of 120 days in a calendar year and should not stay for more than 90 days on business visa during first arrival .

Thank you VERY MUCH for your information, I had no idea about that.

I will read about the process of converting that business visa into an OP now.

If there is something else very relevant that you believe it might be crucial for me to know, please let me know, as I am not aware of all the formalities needed to move to Mauritius.

Marina

Familiarize yourself on the HOW-TO:
Work and Live  on the island to be able to move to Mauritius .
There are specific categories to obtain the OP.

Thank you very much again  :)

As you highlighted it yourself, it is better to be physically present here to understand anything about the whole process. A simple visit to the The Economic Development Board (EDB),  for instance will probably enlight you so much and facilitate things. So, you got 90 days : )

Take care and hope you have better days ahead.

Will do! What a headache, though LOL
