Shipping Container from UK

Hi Guys,

My name is Sachin, and currently living in the UK

I have to say this forum is really great at getting on the ground info, so thank you everyone for doing a great job

I have a very quick question, has anyone shipped any containers from UK to Mauritius and can you recommend a good company to use

Regards
Sachin

Hi I am interested also as looking to relocate when covid allows.
One vlogger( S.A ) suggested Pickfords and using a 鈥 known brand鈥 firm?聽 Don鈥檛 know any costs.
I think you need to have a residence permit, inventory etc for customs to release it.聽 Takes about 1 month by ship.聽 Unless you can arrange collection at port you need a door to door service.
That鈥檚 about all I know, other than we will get a 40m one ( 20 or 40 general purpose container) as it鈥檚 not much more money and we will stuff it with hard to get items in Mauritius.聽 Check also what鈥檚 prohibited.
Yeah that's the idea. Get a big one and stuff it will all the stuff you have and those you cannot get easily.

Any idea about shipping cars in container?
We used Crown relocations from the UK
Thanks and did everything go to plan? Was it a smooth transaction?
Thank you Peter, Will give both a call

Cheers
Just FYI for others following this thread, spoke to both companies and Reid only does pallets, not containers, while Transglobal will not do white goods or cars.
We had no problem
Cool thanks
Did you get your cars shipped as well by any chance or just household goods?
Hi Sachin,

On the household goods side: afaik once you received your Residency Permit,聽 you are only allowed to bring in one 20-foot / 6 metre (NOT 40 foot / 12 metre) container of household goods without incurring import duty.

importing cars into Mauritius is (sorry to say) a whole other can of worms which has been discussed on several threads here on the Expat forum.

You have to be aware of the regulation that your cars must be newer than a certain age and will attract a 100% import duty, government inspection fees, and commisions to the shipping agents on both the sending and receiving sides.

New and used vehicles imported by car dealers in Mauritius are not much better in that they attract the same 100% import duty making them exorbitantly expensive.

Sachin,

take a look at this new video on the pros and cons of shipping a container with all your belongings
(this is not specifically for Mauritius but relevant nonetheless):

Thank you again mate, informative indeed and definitely picked up few pointers like the hoover thing and bicycles. Would never have guessed those
