career opportunities in IT

Hallo everyone,

my name is Max, I currently live in Europe and have visited Mauritius often enough to fall in love with this heavenly island.

I am considering to relocate to Mauritius, let's say about 3 years from now.

Why not immediately ? well, because of the pandemic I have lost my job and decided to go back to University and study Information Technology and Mathematics.

I'm curious to know what job opportunities I could find on the island with skills in the field of software engineering, data science, statistics and perhaps machine learning.

Can anyone enlighten me ?

The IT industry is in constant need of new skills and is perhaps the leading field where expats are recruited (Financial services would be another one). Infact, foreigners working in the IT industry should earn a minimun of Rs 30,000 to be eligible for an occupation permit (compared to other field where the minimum salary requirement is Rs 60,000).

I don't know for sure if in 3 years it will still be the case, I can only guess that it could well be.

From time to time have a look at adverts posted on different job boards, you will have an idea of what is required :

Please bear in mind that vacancies are scarce at the moment due to unstable economic situation and Covid-19. It should "hopefully" get better in the upcoming months.
