Travel to Mauritius from SA

Raymond Donaldson

Good morning everyone,

I have recently received a job offer in Mauritius from the 1st of October. At the moment it appears as though South Africans are band entry into Mauritius till the end of August when hopefully they will lift the travel ban.
Also from what i have been able to read on-line it appears that the island will be fully open to all vaccinated travellers from the 1st of October.

My question:
Can i confidently assume the above to be correct? Will i be allowed entry as of the 1st of October travelling from South Africa (fully vaccinated of course)?

you can confidently assume that the "open to all vaccinated travellers from 1 October" will happen

The challenge at this stage is finding flights.

Currently Air Mauritius flights MK851 and MK852 to and from JNB are happening twice a week (there was one yesterday again) but I gather that they are mainly for cargo and not at this stage transporting many (if any) SA passengers to Mauritius.

Another option is Air Austral with flights from JNB via Reunion RUN, and then a 45-minute connecting flight (4 flights per day to choose from) to MRU.

Kenya Airlines via Nairobi and Emirates via Dubai are two much longer options (Kenya inexpensive and Dubai much more costly)

Many South Africans are holding their breath for the launch of scheduled FlySafair flights between JNB and MRU.
Earlier this year, FlySafair obtained permission to fly this route, and have also received landing rights for MRU, but no one is certain whether they will maybe announce their scheduled flights for this Nov/Dec holiday season.
