Cost of living in Cambodia in 2026

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Every year, we invite you to share your experiences with the cost of living in Cambodia, especially in the region or city you live in. Your insights will greatly help members planning their move to Cambodia or already living there.

Here are some points to guide you; the idea is to provide average prices for each category:

What is the cost of renting or buying an apartment or house in Cambodia?

What are the typical fares for public transportation such as buses, subways, trains, trams, or taxis?

Could you share the average monthly cost of your grocery shopping?

How much does health insurance cost? What is the price of a medical consultation in Cambodia?

What are the tuition fees for children?

What are the average monthly costs for utilities, such as electricity, gas, water, internet, and phone plans?

How much do you spend monthly on leisure activities?

If there are other expenses you find relevant, please feel free to share them!

Thank you for your contribution.

Hello Cheryl. This year my partner and I stayed in our 3 bedroom house in rural Siem Reap living Khmer style. We pay 220 a month for rent. Utilities run about 80. The majority of that is power since we both use the AC often. I don’t do motos or cars. So mostly I walk to places and have been doing this for all the time living here this time. I use PassApp or grab to hail rides. I get discounts often because of coupons on PassApp. I don’t know what food costs since my partner does all that. I eat mostly western food she cooks an occasionally Khmer meal. We don’t eat out too often since she is really a good cook.

We travel in and outside Cambodia every so often. Lately more within to reach places I have not been or to revisit places we like.

My partner has health issues at times so we pay a variable amount for medical visits. She has high blood pressure and blood sugar issues which seem widespread in Cambodians.

Our lives here are very good I will say. She tells me every month she loves her life and what we do. Since we live on fixed social security income we protect the money but also help our Khmer mom each month. She is 85 years young.

My Khmer partner is very careful with how we spend on things. Most of the shopping is at local markets but also at Angkor Market which has what she calls luxury items that I call necessities.

I would say this is the best life I’ve had. Mostly thanks to her. Also many many thanks to Cambodia for putting up with me for so long.
