Footwear in cambodia! Or packing list!

Hi all!

I'm going to phnom penh in two weeks, i will stay there for 10 months, and I am wondering about what to bring with me as I soon will start packing. Foremost I'm musing about what kind of footwear to bring. Should I buy a pair of sandals here in Sweden or should I buy it when I arrive? Or do you use something else to walk with? Regular shoes? Or "flip flop" it's called I Sweden?

Also clothing in general, how much are there to buy? Pants? Shirts? I'm kinda tall, almost 2 meters so it might be a problem?!

Something else you would recommend me to bring cause its difficult to get a hold of over there?

Hi August_o,

Buy a good quality pair of sandals, such as Clarks etc in Europe, plus a pair of lightweight shorts, a couple of short sleeved cotton shirts, to get by in the first few days. All other clothes, flip flops etc you may need can be bought in the Russian Market or made cheaply in Phnom Penh.
I have never worn regular shoes in 12 years in SE Asia.
Your height should be no problem.

bring your own flip flops.. its difficult to find any good ones here .. well, i'm a choosy person when it comes to shoes .. so just from my own experience , good quality is difficult to find .

im also wondering about what the regular cambodian looks like. Do they have their shorts line under their knees, or is it ok to dress as you like i Phnom Penh?

u can dress in anything u like, but yeah .. shorts under the knees would聽 fit in the scenery

cambodians don't usually wear any type of shorts , especially the men .. the girls are fans of minis and shorts yeah but the men usually dress in regular trousers or jeans and shirts or tshirts .

I am also interested in arts and i would find it very fun to paint and so in Phnom Penh. Do anyone know if its possible to find any of that stuff in Phnom Penh? Like acrylic colors or Oil or anything in that sense?

yeah u will find everything , they have them at the Russian Market

you can basically wear anything in the city without offending anyone. It's mainly girls who have to cover up the body and that is really only in the provinces. it might be good to bring some long pants with you, I'm not sure how easy it will be to find pants that have a good length on them. Most shoes I buy here breAk so definitely bring some of your own.

Mosquito net, or some mosquito sleeping bag, is that necessary? should i buy it here or over there?

is it common to bargain a lot at the russian market and other markets, or are the prices fixed?

Can you find shoes size 10.5 and 11? cause in Cebu I had to buy some Hush Puppies shoes to find a size 10.5

10.5 and 11 should not be so difficult, I have around 12/12,5 and thats more of a problem..

Depends on what kind of shoes you are looking for. If its regular flip-flop, go to the russian market or the central market. if its more of a boot or something, i dont know, look at sovanna shopping center. what are you looking for?
