Five year rule, Henan

I arrived in china April 2011 and Zhengzhou from 2012. Each year I apply for a new RP I have now been told as I have been here five years I would have to leave China but could return after a period of six months then I was told I would have to leave next year( maybe it because I arrived in Henan 2012 and 2017 would be my five years). Leaving seems harsh, I was hoping to be able to move province than leaving China... Any up to date information regarding the 'five year rule' would be appreciated.

Hi barvida,

you only need to leave China for more than 30 consecutive days, or 90 days in total.

cheers,
Jeff
Hi Jeff,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. 30 Consecutive days I can handle six months seems over the top..
Hi barvida

cheers,

5year rule is also applied in Yanji. Most of the filipinos went home or transferred to another city .they won't issue any visa extention.
@expat Thanks for that.. A move would be the easiest thing to do  :)
I've never personally known anyone to come up against this rule. I'm in Liaoning and I've been working in the same city for 10 years. The longest I've ever been out of the country during that time is 21 days. My total out the country time in that period has been just 61 days. Each year they just stamp another permit.
it valid only in some places, not general rule. Really rare rule
It is a rule rather than a law and as such schools can abide by it or choose to ignore it. Some schools use it as an easy excuse to get rid of teachers they dont want-they can just blame the"law" and say their hands are tied.
