Answer A) It is not expensive.
Answer B) Because everybody buys cheap 5RMB DVD's
As a Chineses native, I am also wondering why we Chinese should pay so expensive ticket when we are earning such low salary?
In Malaysia, it's only RM10 (RMB20).
Because the people who come in don't really want to watch, they have their another purposes.
if u go to cinema on Tuesday, u can get 50% discount,have a try~
What other purposes that make the ticket expensive?

well, even after 50% discount,I think it is still expensive.
I am staying in Suzhou now, the movie ticket here cost me RMB80, so after 50% it comes to RMB40. Hmm, still paying more than what I have to in Hong Kong or Malaysia.

I kinda miss the "Movie Day" in Malaysia actually. It is on every Wednesday, where you only have to pay RMB12 to enjoy a movie in a THX certified (Surround Sound System)cinema.

Vincent, exactly! Even RMB40 is expensive for us malaysian... because we used to watch movie in big cinema for RMB20 and RMB12 on wednesday.
You are not in Malaysia.. accept it as a fact of life.

If you want to enjoy your time in China (or anywhere that is not home)do not compare it to home. As a rule of thumb, people who continually ask why .. and compare things to home, tend not to complete the full term of their expatriate assignment and return home early.

Learn to adapt, to accept that that is the way things are done in the new environment and you will have a fantastic time and memorable experience.

if moive ticket in China is so cheap as in Malay, i guess its also not easy for u to watch it in the cinema, cos they will be sold out in the early morning, lol. hope u could adapt it asap.

The Last Airbender - Saturday night, anyone?
Hi guys
Don聮t get me wrong, there is no intension at all demeaning this lovely country nor we are not accepting the way of life here.
The movie watching thing is just something that reminds us of what we used to do, where friends get together for dinner and head for movie on Wed/Fri night.
Honestly, sometimes you can聮t help but compare the way you do things in different countries and share something that you could have in the new country, could be food, beer, activity.
Well, if this post is about BBQ, some aussie might have told you how much they miss the BBQ days.
Anyway, sorry if the point made on the ticket pricing made anyone upset.
Cheers.
not at all Vincent, all we do here is about sharing experience and thoughts, that's what forum is meant about :)

Cheers.
Smie_beijing,
Haha, yeah good point. I can tell how long the queue could get.
Hmm, perhaps I should have 聯Movie Day聰 in my own apartment instead of going to cinema. Anyone? But I am in Suzhou...sigh..

Mr. Malaysian, did you bring along your DVD collection? Don聮t tell me you brought the pirated one.
Vincent, I don't bring any DVD, they are all inside my PC :)
I'm lazy to change DVD, so I put everything in my haddisc. Plus the DVD here are soooooooo cheap, but quality wise not stable... pros and cons.

I'm watching HK drama and downloading them everyday. Maybe we can exchange some movie thru p2p? haha...
hi lim,

i hv the same question n impression like u about the movie ticket.
what i can say is,,,,, after sometime, u will get used to it...
I'll get used to it if my boss let me to get used to it. :)
Most (many) of the cinemas have member discount cards. I do not remember the initial price (but not expensive). Last night I went to see a film at MegaBox (The Village, Sanlitun). I had to renew my card (had it for more than a year. The renewal cost me 5RMB.
