I am empty nester American, currently living at least half the year in Shunde, Guangdong, but want to find an area with more Americans and Westerners in general.  Of major concern is that our factory is in Lunjiao.  We do not have a car.  The high speed train would seem to open up opportunities to live near the Panyu Station, if that is where a good Western community is, since the Shunde station is not too far from Lunjiao.

We would like to know where the best housing with Western standards and amenities is where we can live near, socialize, and network with more and Westernern expatriates and where we have access to quality health care.

I was looking for clubs and hobby groups to join.  One thing of interest would be taking Italian cooking classes.  Another is joining some kind of bicycling club (not mountain or racing, but touring, if that's possible).  Even wine tasting, travelling, or just socializing groups would be great.

Here in Shunde, the life is nice, and the area affluent but we are among an extremely small group of expats and can never get anything going.

In addition, we are tired of being stared at everywhere we go around here and never being able to find anything to make us feel more at home.

After 8 years, we still seem to be an oddity here, few people speak English, and there are no support groups for us at all.

Can anyone help us?
