Best recruitment companies for media/publishing?

nataliecos

Hey guys,

I'm a Sydney-based New Zealander relocating to KL on 20 June with my partner who is relocating for work. I will be seeking full time employment in the media/publishing industries. I have copywriting, editing, digital marketing and team management experience. Can anyone let me know if there is a recruitment company in KL that specialises in these fields?

Thanks!

Natalie

There aren't any real recruitment agents!

What there are a few "head hunters" - one man bands - and Michael Page are trying to get established. Asian job markets work very different to western ones

nataliecos

Hey, thanks for your reply! Do you know of any of these head hunters by any chance? From my research though it looks like several major companies such as Randstat have Malaysian offices..

Check out the company MindValley which is based in KL
They will be open to hiring foreigners

Also if you use the portal techmeabraod.com - this is where companies who are willing to hire foreigners will post their jobs ads. I know by the name it kinda suggest that its more for tech related jobs. But I've seen some non-tech jobs ads too there.
Here's the link for jobs based in Malaysia and you'd notice that MindValley is the only company that posted job ads there

Randstat, Kelly, Michael Page, Robert Walters, etc. really only deal with Malaysians. Its mainly because only certain companies can hire foreigners due to their paid-up capital and quotas - so IT is the main sector where jobs for foreigners are available. Not much else is possible, apart from English Language teaching, but that needs qualifications and experience.

The other main issue with getting work in Malaysia is that companies can more easily recruit people on dependent passes - so trailing spouses succeed a little bit more easily than foreign hires.

You could try Lavoro Services Recruitment - but they usually ask for candidates who already have a work permit (employment pass)

Thank you Philip! Super helpful :)
