Editorial on MM2H in "The Expat"

I though that people might be interested in the editorial in support of maintaining an affordable MM2H program in "The Expat". On pp.9 there is also some information on the "Forest City" project.

It's slightly ironic timing about the calibre of MM2H applicants, as a couple on MM2H for the last 11 years, living on Langkawi, the wife murdered her husband.

Didn't know about that...so sad. But "higher quality" tourists are likely to have no lower risk of mental illness or intra-familial discord that those in the middle class. Certainly psychological and economic聽 stress would be increased if MM2H recipients faced revised higher standards, though. But that hasn't been announced yet, thank goodness.

I think the editorial is purely coincidental to that event. Magazines take months to get into print. I think that the Forest City and concern over revisions to MM2H may have been the impetus. The editorial likely went to press even before the recent "suspension" and announced shift of MM2H to the Home Ministry (Immigration, Police, Customs, MAAC, etc.)

The previous Minister of Tourism was suggesting that MM2H have higher income qualifications and Fixed Account levels for over a year. 鈥淲e want quality, not quantity鈥 I鈥檓 sure the association too doesn鈥檛 want any Tom, Dick and Harry to join them,鈥 the minister (Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz) said, referring to the MM2H Agents Association, the organisation that also has expatriates as members.鈥澛 (Malay Mail Online 13/7/2017).
