my view is 6500 is manageable for a couple with a decent lifestyle.
6500 RM will be cost to company, and they are not providing accomodation, car .....and taxes have to be borne by us.....in this case 6500 RM we have to pay tax, food, accommodation,etc....can we have a decent life along with savings please suggest...........
thanks....

Cheers n best of luck..
It won't be easy but far from undoable!
Maybe coz u r living as single. They want to move here as couple. Plus they want to save some too...
Sasha.. Its still a no from my side...
Cheers..!
I dont understand why cant a Civil Engineer with good international experience get anything lesser than that.
I can quote myself as an example..!
Cheers..!
6500 RM for a small family from Hyderabad to live comfortably in KL is not a problem. For saving, that depends on their living style. As I know so many friends from Hyderabad, they don't need to spend much. For 2-3 years, they can save and buy one house in Hyderabad.
also u cant compare india and malaysia as cost of living is higher in malaysia. plus expats have additional needs that need to b compensated. eg. housing, school fees, a car.
still a no go from me.
Cheers..!!
If you're taking public transportation, yes, you can save on car rental & petrol/toll/parking which in all can come up to RM2.5k-RM3k, you probably need to spend RM150-RM200/month on public transportation.
If you're cooking / preparing the meals yourself, you can get your meat/vegetables/fruits/goods at wet/morning & night market which can be a whole lot cheaper. But if you like shopping in stores instead on streets, then Tesco/Giant would be the best stores to get cheaper produce than any other stores. For 2, you can look into RM300-RM600/month. Having a drink outside, a cup of coffee cost RM1-RM1.20/each at hawker stalls inside cheap restaurant, but cost up to RM8/each at middle cost restaurant. Eating out at the cheap restaurant cost RM4-RM6/meal (Nasi Lemak, Prawn Noodle, Laksa, Economic/Mixed Rice (buffet style with selection of dishes), etc). For the same thing in middle cost restaurant will cost 50%-200% higher.
So, it really depends on you.

And as you might know, there are currently hundreds or thousands of people (sorry to say, no offense, but most of them are Indian with one month VISA) staying in KL Central spending 30-50RM per day (accommodation budget is included) just to hope for an offer come across. Most of them are IT guys with Master or Bachelor Degree. So I think having a starting point at 6500RM is not that bad. Can't have decent life without passing some hurdles. :p
If I may ask, which area of construction has your husband got experience in? Buildings, Real Estate, Heavy Infrastructure? And how many years of experience has he got?
I am also a Civil Engineer and working in MRT project. I might be able to help you take a decision (if you have not taken already)
Cheers..!
I am from India.
I have been offered salary in Malaysia @ RM 5400 + Accomodation + Transportation. They are also offering separate salary in India being an Indian company. My office location would be Jalan Perak.
I am going to shift along with my Wife. I just want to know, whether I can save any amount out of RM 54oo?
Also let me know the rent of 1 BHK Furnish flat around the Office area if in case they dont provide me Accommodation, I will have to ask compensation for the same.
Is Indian food and grocery is easily available there?
Kindly help me with information so that I can take right decision.
Regards,
Piyush
Please compare with your current saving before making the decision. And make sure you get accomodation and transportation. Else it would be very very tight for you to manage. And in that case I would advise you not to take the offer.
Cheers..!
So a family man and experienced engineer? Rubbish salary!
Thanks for the inputs. So I understood that a family of two can not live happily in RM 5400. That means no question of savings out of 5400 even i manage to get Accomodation and transportation from Company.
Thanks again!!
In case you are not getting accommodation and transportation from company, in that case I would discourage you from taking up the offer.
If you are getting the accommodation and transportation, then on 5400, you will have tax.
As it looks like, you dont have kids yet. So my best opinion is that you may be able to survive but then again I am not so sure about the savings.
Speaking for me, I cant.
Again depends on you.. Your living expenses should fall between 2500 to 4000 per month.
Now its your call.
Cheers..!
my husband has experience in QUANTITY SURVEYING, 4 yrs in IT,RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS,TATA AEROSTRUCTURE,IT PARKS..
thanks
I am from Mumbai (India) and got an offer of 8393 MYR (Including Tax, PF, Accommodation..Everything). I have a very good lifestyle in India and would like to maintain same in Malaysia. Can you help me out in making a decision whether it would be a good idea to move to Cyberjaya with the above mentioned CTC along with my wife. Looking forward for your response. Thanks!
Regards,
Vinit
Thanks for your reply!
No, accommodation needs to be arranged by myself which is a big factor before making a decision. We are just a couple and no kid at the moment.
Regards,
Vinit
First of all, deduct 26% for first six months as flat tax. After that deduct 2000 to 2500 for your housing, average meal per day will cost you between 20-25RM (if eating at mamak stalls)
As you said you have a very good lifestyle in Mumbai and you wanna continue that here in KL too.. I dont think buddy you will be able to with that much salary. One outing to a club/high end restaurant/disc/pub will cost you min 500 to 1000RM.
Now do the maths...! I would say if you make a move, you wont be able to save anything and your wife too might have to work.
I would advise you to follow my other posts too to have a better understanding of the costs here in KL.
Cheers..!
I stay in kl with My partner and our monthly rent is aready 6000 rm At kl

Does anyone know how much rent a person needs to pay per month for a decent 1-2 bedroom unit in KL?
Just an apartment with security. No need for swimming pool, gym or other extra's.
How much is the rental price for that kind of unit?
Please dont misguide members who post their querries. All the posts above clearly give the message opposite to your opinion.
Of course you are free to post your opinion but then substantiate your comment pls.. How will she be able to save money?
Cheers..!
I have got the offer of RM 7K P.M . My company will bear the transportation cost, mobile bill , internet bill and accommodation.
I am single . Is this offer a decent enough for me to save few money ?
Regards
Raj
I see that you belong to my wifes place..! Congrats man.. You have landed yourself a nice job. All expenses paid by the company.. Cool.. what about the ticket and visa costs?
Ask them if they can provide once a year return ticket for you to India.
In accommodation, are they providing you a flat? or a shared bachelors accommodation? and transport? Will it be your own car or are they just gonna reimburse you local public transport?
Lastly, your taxes will be 26% for first six months..! After that, they will return to normal as per Malaysian tax rules and don't forget to get your international driving permit before you leave India..!
Cheers and best of luck..!
