Skytrax 100 2025

Lotus Eater

The 2025 London based Skytrax 100 airline rankings are now out.

No big changes in the top 10. Qatar Airways retains the top spot so be prepared to be pampered Cherryann on your forthcoming flight to Jakarta at least on the 1st leg. Garuda Indonesia though have dropped from 31 to 46 but I’m sure they will look after you on the 2nd leg.

For our American friends good news if you are flying in from the west coast. The Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines has rocketed from 34th place to 18. Without doubt one of the most exciting new players to enter the aviation arena in Asia . A dedicated in flight smooth jazz channel to boot.

Moreover as of January 2026 they are introducing a new service from Phoenix Arizona using shiny new Airbus 350’s. I know Pncyclist is based near there so certainly one to consider. Starlux fly into Manila and Cebu from Taipei.

More routes are in the pipeline for Europe and the states.

This will be my 8th trip to the Philippines and the second time with Qatar Airlines. Previously I have flown with Emirates, Cathay Pacific (x2) and Saudi Airlines. I forget the airlines I used on my other 2 trips but for me Qatar were the best so far. I am not looking forward to the return leg though from Cebu to Doha which is scheduled to take 13 hours with a 90 minute technical stop in Davao. I am seriously thinking of bidding for an upgrade on this leg of the journey if I get the chance to do so. I did have a similar experience on my first trip to the Philippines with Emirates and remember a short technical stop in Clark on my way from Cebu to Dubai.

Great news for me, Lotus. Really appreciate and will look into it. The van shuttle from Tucson to PHX is only 2 hours so it could work and I have never flown Starlux. I have recently been flying United to SFO then their partner ANA to Narita and on to Cebu, thus avoiding Manila. All booked through United for the miles and ANA Prem Econ is pretty good. It looks like they are not even going to charge me extra for the gravel bike I'm bringing over in early Nov which would make me really happy. Cheers.

We have flown StarLux 3 times to the US. It is my preferred airline,  The service is good and I can bypass Manila departing and arriving.

Starlux is a true luxury airline. Literally the nicest flight I've ever been on. The plane itself, the service, the vast entertainment center, and THE FOOD, were all the best I have ever had on a flight. And I've flown a lot in the US. It is easily twice as nice as any US airlines. But the food blew me away. The french bread rolls felt and tasted like they baked them in an oven onboard. Not kidding. It was like one of the better meals I've ever had. And certainly the best meal ever on an airline. I was blown away by the food.

But everything was like flying first class.

They are new and offering very good rates too. I only happened to fly Starlux because it was the best deal.

Phillipines Air has the best luggage policies though.
