Renewal of 13A

Enzyte Bob

Sometime ago I ask if anyone used an agency for renewal of the 13A, the reason is because I had a major obstacle which I did not disclose on this forum when I asked for help.

As you know the 13A  grants you permanent status if married to a Filipino. My obstacle was  my wife Aida passed away on November 22, 2025 and my renewal was due in February.

As believed by almost everyone the 13A becomes nullified upon the death of your Filipino spouse. I reached out to an agency that was recommended and this is the reply I received: We regret to inform you the 13A cannot be renewed if your spouse is no longer with us. The option is to downgrade your 13A and apply for the SRRV or tourist visa.

Well my 13A was successfully renewed legally by my stepson without me ever going to the BI.

There is a provision for widowers/widows to retain and renew their 13A.

If anyone is interested and want a copy of the provision that allows this please message me. Then we can exchange email address and I can send you an attachment of the provisions enabling you to renew the 13A with the passing of your spouse.

I'm sure you will need a copy because BI is probably unaware of the provisions.

So very sorry for your loss Bob, a sad time for you and family. I'm sure all members here have their thoughts with you and yours.

Very happy to hear you have navigated your way through the red tape for a successful outcome and I'm sure there will be contacts made to you from expats in the same situation.

Cheer, Steve.

@Enzyte Bob

That's very important information about maintaining one's 13A after the death of a filipino spouse.

Please send me the details.

Thank you very much!

As Cheryl pointed out for your protection you cannot post contact information on this public forum.

But

You or anyone else can private message me on this forum, on the top right of the expat.com page are four "Icons", The furthest one from the right leads you to the private message channel. You can message me your email address and I will reply with two attachments from the Bureau of Immigration.

One is a request on information that they replied with. The second is on official BI letterhead reiterating the official stance & pointing out to the government act number.

So sorry to hear about your loss Bob but glad you managed to get your 13A sorted.

I'm afraid this private messaging facility baffles me. I click on the leftmost icon at the top (fourth from the right) and it just gives me a generic topic menu. Entering "@Enzyte Bob" gets me nowhere. Sorry to bug you, but can you give me a hint on how to use this private-message facility? I'm interested in the 13-A and deceased spouse issue.

Thanks much

Firstly welcome to the forum gwmurphy, read on and enjoy.

I think you need to have 5 submissions here before you can send private messages.

Good luck.

Cheers, Steve.
