Getting around with your pet in the Philippines

Hello everyone,

Living in the Philippines with a pet also means learning how to navigate local transport systems together. From daily commutes to occasional trips, you have to navigate betwwen local rules and real-life experiences. Whether you’re a long-term expat or still adjusting, we would love to hear your insights.

How do you usually travel with your pet in the Philippines?

How pet-friendly do you find local transportation means in practice?

What challenges do you face?

How does your pet handle transportation in the Philippines in general?

What about costs when traveling with public transportation (either bus, train, taxi, plane…)? Are there special or additional rates for pets?

Have you ever encountered unexpected situations or surprises related to pet transport rules?

Share your experience to help fellow expats and soon-to-be expats.

Thanks,

Cheryl

An interesting topic, my 15 years knocking about here, living here for 7 years have never seen a loved pet on a train, bus, jeepney or tricycle. Our two Labrador's are walked on leads or a trip to the vet it's in the SUV and they love it.

While I see plenty of pets roaming wild through the day and night, dogs, cats, goats, cows I never see the owners tending them let alone anyone showing up to gain public transport with their pet to get them from A to B.

Others may offer different experiences.

Cheers, Steve.

Hello Steeve,

Thank you for sharing your perspective and experience. 😉

Your observations really help give a clearer picture of the local situation with pets and transport.

Others may indeed have different experiences, so it will be interesting to see whether more members can contribute as well.

Cheers,

Cheryl

Yes we'd love to hear from Kristens 23 on her observations  smile.png

Here is a heart warming story for you but not concerning the Philippines so sorry about that.

When I was married we got our daughter a Kitten and she named it Mittens and she was with us for about 5 years. When we got divorced we could not keep Mittens since we both moved into rented accommodation after selling the house and both landlords had a no pet policy. Mittens was given to people we knew and I thought that was the end of it.

A couple of weeks ago when my daughter, now 21 came to visit us from down south she told me that my ex wife had received a phone call from the vets saying Mittens had been found. We found out she had been living on the streets abandoned for at least a few months but somebody reported the matter and since she was micro chipped by us years ago, the vets she had been handed in to contacted us. She was in a bit of a mess with damage to her mouth and had trouble eating but she is now living in Bournemouth with my daughter and her boyfriend and has made a recovery after being treated by the vets down there. I remember taking my daughter (Jessica) to the pet store while she was up here for her to purchase a pet travelling carrier and Mittens rode the train from Bradford to Bournemouth with Jessica. Eight years and they were reunited.

I did once see a small dog in a jeepney in Lapu Lapu on somebody's lap.
