The afterwork culture in Vietnam

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Living in Vietnam is a unique opportunity to discover the different aspects of the local culture and way of life. Today, we would like to invite you to explore the afterwork culture in Vietnam and how locals get to unwind. Whether it's about meeting people, relaxing, or bonding with your coworkers, it is also a great way to get to know the local customs and habits.

Here are a few questions to start with:

What are the most popular afterwork activities in Vietnam?

When and where do afterwoks usually take place?

What main cultural differences have you experienced?

How did afterworks help you with your professional and social integration?

Share your experiences, anecdotes and tips to help fellow expats.

Thank you for your contribution.

Hi Cheryl,

Drinking beer is #1 followed closely by drinking coffee and other beverages at a coffee shop.

Shopping at a local fresh market is usually mandatory for working women heading home to prepare dinner for their husbands who are out drinking coffee or beer.

Karaoke in private homes (with the windows open) and at coffee shops or a Bia H啤i or Bia T瓢啤i (fresh beer on tap) place is a daily occurrence that only gets louder as the evening progresses (digresses?).

During decent weather, walking with your family is very common to see.

Anyone living near the shoreline can also join the many Vietnamese who take a dip in the water as the sun is beginning hide behind the mountains.

Expats who work for major employers will likely have the opportunity to hang out with fellow coworkers, but the activities will usually be the same: drink "coffee", drink beer, enduring karaoke and walking together:

in H脿 N峄檌 walking around Ho脿n Ki岷縨 (lake) is very popular and a good way to meet locals who are looking for foreigners with whom they can speak English.

In HCMC, strolling up and down 膼. Nguy锚虄n Hu锚蹋 walking street is a great experience when accompanied by friends from work.

Thanks for asking.

I do hope that someone will correct me and let me know about some other meaningful activities that happen after work.

Cheers!
