The dimensions of the notes reduce with value.

    500,000 VND: 152mm x 65mm

    200,000 VND: 148mm x 65mm

    100,000 VND: 144mm x 65mm

    50,000 VND: 140mm x 65mm

    20,000 VND: 136mm x 65mm (New Polymer)

    10,000 VND: 132mm x 60mm (New Polymer)

Not just you. A lot of locals, GF included, have confessed to me doing the same thing. I've not made that mistake (yet).
