Inheritance laws - Vietnam

mickrasmussen

Hi Group,

Does anybody know the Vietnamese inheritance laws into detail or can point/direct me to a good layer concerning this subject.

As a heads up - from my own readings/knowledge. I understand that there is no inheritance tax in Vietnam at current. Only fees in conjunction with transferring properties from one person to another.

(I am a foreign citizen and been living here for the past 20+ years)

My question is really.

If I inherited some money from a relative (living overseas) or received a preliminary inertance/gift on my Vietnamese account. Do I have to pay any taxes....????

Hello,

Taxes for Inheritances are collected by the country  where the goods/assets/properties are based.  If not  in Vietnam, then no need a Vietnamese inheritance lawyer, but maybe you will need one in that other country.

In this particular case, about "money only" as you mention, once it is ready for you abroad:  you need to follow the vietnamese rules for foreigners receiving money same as ever.  Sharing these rules with all readers of this forum :

A. Foreigners can receive deposits only from 1)your job or contracts of services, 2) from the Government, 3) or from/between your own banks accounts via local/international wire transfers.

B. Foreigner can receive remittances (WU, MG, etc), yes, but it will be in physical...  then how then will you put it in your bank?  Well, this option B is part of other topic.
