Water, water go away ... Funny, No Rain for a Few Days

People who transitted through Quan 4 tonight were surprised by a deep pool of water after they crossed Cao Ong Lanh (bridge) that carries traffic from Nguyen Thai Hoc on to Hoang Dieu.

The road elevating works which raised the intersection of Hoang Dieu and Khanh Hoi by 20 centimetres are an abysmal failure as there was at least 20 centimetres depth of flood water there at 19.00H.

There was were further flood points further along Khanh Hoi towards Quan 7.

I popped under the river through the new Thu Thiem Tunnel and the newly recovered land聽 in Thu Thiem where they plan to build thousands of new homes was also completely covered with water.

The floods were the result of extra high tides from the sea combined with the effect of the moon. There was no rain in TP HCM today.

In addition to the high water, TP HCM is also sinking! This sinking is caused by the pumping/extraction of ground water of which around 46% is illegal and not authorised by the city.

As you might expect, the rights to minerals, or anything, in the ground belong to the government.

Should be high water again Tuesday. And don't think you can avoid the Khanh Hoi flooding by using Nguyen Van Linh because it was flooded, too!

It was flooded along Tran Nao in D2, close to the new road and Calmette in D1.
They were actually worse a couple of days ago I end up stalling in the middle of Tran Nao, first time that's happened to me guess I'm gonna need to watch that.

Yesterday I noticed an unusually high tide around here. Usually on high tide it floods only the main road, but I could see some of the secondary or side streets starting to flood as well. We live in Thao Dien Ward, An Phu.

When I look at the detailed map showing all the water courses in TP Ho Chi Minh it looks like the the root system of a huge, blue,聽 tree.

When water is low, they appear innocent, ut when the river is in flood, the harmless looking puddles of water turn in to veritable lakes.

The sewer system reminds me of the Cu Chi tunnels - harmless enough on top but underneath... The sewers provide fast access to all parts of the city for the water. Pity they didn't fit back-flow flaps on the pipes to stop it.

In Q4, near where they poured hundreds of truck loads of stone chips to build up the road, all the hiems (lane ways) are under 30-50 centimetres of water

And if it's flooding there, imagine what the ground floors of the homes are like!
