One of the couples' name that runs the charity, Stars of Vietnam http://www.starsofvietnam.net/wp-content/uploads/sov_logo_104x104.png

happens to be Juergen Eichhorn...as well....

Hello Tran,
yes that is the projects we do in Hai Duong.

The couple is me and my wife.
The projects we do are concentrated on poor, blind and disabled kids.

Also we work with VAVA regarding victims of Agent-Orange in our area.

I take it that the Agent Orange victims are the children or grandchildren of veterans who served in the South? No Agent Orange was ever sprayed in North Vietnam.

Do you have an estimate of the number of cases you've seen?

Eichhorn Juergen

Hello Lirelou,
about 3 million people in VN are affected in Vietnam. The official number says that 150.000 Kids have been born with very bad defects caused by agent-orange and other dioxin.
In Hai Duong we have 25.000 disabled people, 5000 of them are children.
The problem is that the defects can jump generations. We have many children here with "normal" parents, but the grandfather has been in central Vietnam during the war.

The problem exists all over Vietnam. AND IT WILL NEVER END.

Stars of Vietnam is a 100% volunteer-based "organisation". We take care for hundreds of children and families. It is a hobby...not our profession.

That is about 2012. It is not true that Paul Christanell is my partner in the restaurant, but who cares:

Juergun, Thanks for the numbers, and kudos to you for getting involved in the country you live in. Or as the Aussies would say: "Good on yer, Mate."

Eichhorn Juergen

Hi Lirelou,
the Aussies are helping us as well. We have good customers from Blundstone and we have been watching AFL every weekend.
They support our charity work.

Hello everyone, I am considering taking a job in Hai Duong. Is there a lot to do there and is it easy to meet other expats? Overall, I am looking to move to Vietnam but prefer to go more coastal and stay away from HCM. Any suggestions or help would be fabulous.

Sarvesh

Hi kpovee,

Please note that the last post on this thread is from 2013.

I'd therefore request you to create a new topic if you want further assistance from our members.
